Who we are
Cooking and baking has always been a passion of mine from an early age. I remember sitting up on the red chair in my grandma’s kitchen making pikelets, butterfly cakes and whatnot for my cousins when they come over after school.
When trying to navigate my teen years, I spent hours and hours in my kitchen, my oasis, my happy place. When life got tough, I knew I had my whisk and apron to fall back on.
I wasn’t as successful at school like all of my friends. I struggled to pay attention, lost all my motivation to study and just lost myself. I knew my experience at school was not something I wanted to do ever again, whether it was at university or working a 9-5 desk job. I spent ages and ages, scouring the internet to find a suitable career path for someone who doesn’t want to be sitting all day and was able to work with my hands. I was led back to the kitchen.
In Years 11 and 12, I picked a Cookery subject, and that was one of the best decisions I made as a way to introduce me into the industry. I got to work alongside chefs (who later became my best friends) and serve customers in a bistro setting. As I grew up playing club sport from the ages 5 to 17, I would say I had gotten pretty good at working in a team to accomplish a goal. Being able work side by side with these chefs not only grew my knowledge but my confidence too.
